What benefits do you gain from choosing the leadership habit of consistency?

You may have experienced a moody unpredictable person in your life.

How did it make you feel?

What if you had to work with them?

The fact is that humans like consistency.

Our brains like to know how to respond and like familiarity.

This is why it is a crucial part of branding.

If you book a Premier Inn room – you KNOW exactly what to expect. It is consistent with your expectations, it is reassuring.  It means you can TRUST.

It is the same in leadership.

Your team need consistency from you.

This does not mean that you behave the same way all the time.

It means you respond in the same way in a consistent manner to the same type of events.

It creates trust.

It promotes fairness.

Stimulus and response. Humans are hard-wired. The brain wants to keep you safe, so when there is something unexpected it wants to keep us safe.  Is there a threat?  Should we attack to defend?

It is something that leaders need to be aware of.

Choosing to respond in a predictable, consistent manner as a habit is part of the 9 leadership habits which build trust.

This is part of the work of The Trusted Executive and the book of the same name by dr John Blakey.

I’m exploring this in the Linked Live series of events.

Please check it out.
